I tried out Chronic Commissions!

Rants N Raves

Went though my email and clicked on one for a product called Chronic Commissions.

I thought this looks good i’ll take a gamble and try it.

There were several upsells before your taken to the members area for additional coaching and extra campaigns to take advantage of.  What they didn’t say is that you have to pay for traffic and their method was buying solo ads from other marketers until you had your own list setup.  You are also encouraged to setup with awebber.

All I have to say is a lot of clickbank products are missing a lot of information from their sales pages.  In the make money from home niche there are a ton of snake oil salesman trying to get your money.  A lot of them will promise the moon and then upsell you to death.  They will say you only need to do this and you find that there are 5 other things you have to do or pay for to make everything work.

In the case of Chronic Commissions, Caleb does not reveal that all of the traffic sources are paid sources.  It is frustrating that he says in his sales page he just turned them all on, but for a hippie bum in debt and his bank account frozen due to debts, how did he get the money to pay for his traffic??  I asked for a refund I hope I get it or I’m out over 50 bucks.  For all Internet marketers that read this, when there is a product launch that your considering promoting,  do your research and ask yourself is this product misleading?

My findings on autoresponder software

advice, Tools

Hey guys after researching and playing around with several options, I thought i would share my research on autoresponders

Werll i have finally concluded my research and here are the results.

From what most people say, you should go out and pay for awebber, but wanting
to stay away from monthly payments on credit card.
I thought i would try for myself some of the auto responders that work on
my server.
First of all there is a basic auto responder though cpanel and a program on my
server called GNU mailman.
This software is good but is designed more for a discussion forum style of
mailing.  Great free solution, but one thing i couldn’t figure out was how to
configure the subscribe page, so i could connect it to the blog.  GNU Mailman
has documentation but not full instructions.  Basically if i used this i’d
still be scratching my head.
Confused I marched on to the next program i could find.
Pommo mail server
www.pommo.org
Got it up and running but uuugh the subscribe/ unsubscribe again was a night
mare and even though i tried with pommo a few things.  I had a bit of trouble
understanding the template it said in the documentation it was easily
customized by editing SMARTY templates.  It wasn’t too smart for me.  Either I
did not give it enough time to figure out, as it just confused me.
Pommo was nice enough and customizable, but it wasn’t quite my cup of tea.
ah well on to the next one
PHP list.
www.phplist.com
I was impressed with this software.  It was really easy to get up and running
but alas even though i could get it going, it doesen’t allow you to write
emails subquentially.  Though subscribe/unsubscribe was easy enough to
implement.  PHP list is a good option if you want to send out more of a email
broadcast to your subscribers.  (pity it didn’t do the sequential mailings)
I did like PHP list it has a easy configuration.  It was also easy to navigate
and understand and it was very well documented. But alas it’s good for one time mailings only.
Autoresponder and Mailing List Manager 4.0 Lite.
http://www.drquek.com/
This software was great to set up as it had complete instructions, and it
walked you though  it step by step, even had video how to’s.
There are a few versions of this software.  I am currently trying the free version.  A word of warning though if you go with the free version you will have to manually unsubscribe people
with the free version.  The pro version of course has this functionality.
With this one READ the features related to each version and you’ll understand what i mean.
Paid version would be fantastic for most peoples use, free version basically there for demo purposes.
My final program i found and it’s free horray it’s called Dadamail.
dadamailproject.com
This program is the winner in my books.  It is easy to setup, good
indtructions.  I really like the customization and it’s easy to understand and
use.  It is written in perl progamming language so it runs easily on the server.
The documentation is not the best (compared with phplist) but what i have tried with it so far it seems pretty straightforward and easy to understand the concepts of it.
Finally I now picked  a autoresponder that i can use for free and runs off my
server.
For all server based solutions there are a few things you will need.
you will need to setup a my SQL Database (google it it’s not hard to do)
You will need to install the software.  (trust me it’s not like a windows install and there are more steps to it, but it’s not hard to do you just follow the instructions)  It can be a bit intimidating your first time, but it’s not as hard as it seems.
Some software will come with a script that will do the complicated stuff on the server for easier installation.
Dadamail  is the best software yet, that i have found it’s free and it has all the features that a internet marketer could use.
Now I do have to issue a few words of warning.
For the marketer who is on a shoesting budget and not tech savvy, I have to
agree with the guru’s and say get a autoresponder service.
So for those on a shoestring budget and want a email service for free to get started i recommend Getresponse as your first 100 subscribers to your list are free then it’s 10 bucks a month for the first level of service.
You can check it out here.
With a autoresponder service they can guarantee deliverablilty.  When you are running on your own server and the server is shared with someone who is spamming, your messages can appear as spam due to the server having the same ip address.  You can get black listed even though you have nothing to do with them.
But I am going to try this first, if my autoresponder doesent work out on my shared server hosting like most of us have, then i will go over to get responce.  You can always export your mailing list from your data base and import it in to an auto responder service.
Well I hope this has been helpful.  If you have any questions please leave me a comment at the bottom of this post, and i’ll be happy to reply.

For the marketer who is on a shoesting budget and not tech savvy, I have to

http://www.mailchimp.com/ (this service allows 2000 subscribers for free and has a pay as you go pricing plan)

http://freeautobot.com (this service is free but is ad supported, their service is supported by add you see on their page)
Well I hope this has been helpful.  If you have any questions please leave me a comment at the bottom of this post, and i’ll be happy to reply.

Q&A from your comments

NEWS

Hi guys I admit i haven’t logged in to my own blog for a while. I was going though the comments that all of you have been leaving me. First of all Thank you guys for the comments. I have to say there were a few that were sharp but truthful. I appreciate your honesty and feedback.

To answer a few people wanting to know about the blog software it’s self. Yes it is wordpress I use the following plugins All in one Seo pack, and Pingler. i also have a mailchimp widget installed.

I was also asked why my writing has gone so wonky. I started out with very informative posts, and some of them are just plain boring, one reader said. To that i reply yes some of my posts will be lenghly and chock full of information. They are also tagged as Tools, or advice. If i feel like talking about something random I will usually tag it as general ramblings or rants N raves.

I was asked if i do newsletters, and the answer is currently no I do not have any mailings to send out. future consideration will be held on having a newsletter. For the person who said they were getting multiple messages from the Rss feed when comments are left on posts, you are subscribed to the comments RSS feed http://howardsinfo.com/blog/comments/feed/ and not the actual feed http://howardsinfo.com/blog/feed/ double check which feed you are subscribed to. If you are subscribed to the comments feed you will be alerted when a new comment is left on my posts.

I love your comments and inquires. Keep them coming guys
